Diplomatic Reception Rooms Education Portal
The Diplomatic Reception Rooms have long housed the major diplomatic events of the US state department. We were tasked with creating three distinct user-centered digital experiences for the Diplomatic Reception Rooms’ education team to aid teachers in instruction at the intersection of civic engagement, history and art history.
THE DIRECTIVE
The 3 products we created utilized the DRR’s collection to visually tell the story of diplomacy in America’s past and to actively engage their desired audiences: Teachers and Students Grades 4-12. The digital products consistent of: Immersive exhibits, customizable timelines, and audience-generated
object collections.
MY ROLE
Hybrid between UX designer, creative lead and design manager. I marshalled the design efforts on a team of four creatives in conjunction with the content and client curatorial teams. I focused my efforts on the creation of three distinct prototypes for user testing. I also lead client meetings and internal workshops around content and concept.
Process:
As creative director on the project, I authored the process approach, starting with a series of workshops to dive into the client goals and available content. This then informed the next phase of concept/prototype creation and validation with user testing. Using figma, I led the creative team in creating a series of interactive prototypes for the 3 products. In conjunction with the narrative team, we created a methodology & plan to test these prototypes with, that consisted of observation and follow up interviews. Following audience recruitment, we led a series of testing sessions to better understand how teachers interpret both the UX and narrative.
